Uterine Fibroids: The Unspoken Plight of Our Community
Did you know that by the time they are 50 years old, 80% of Black women will have uterine fibroids? Join us for a moderated panel discussing all things uterine fibroids – from symptoms and impact on quality of life to the emotional toll of this common condition. Uterine fibroids are non-cancerous tumors of the uterus that can cause a host of burdensome symptoms such as heavy bleeding during your period, pain, and incontinence. Moderated by Tiffany Kung, our panelists, Dr. Shepherd, a physician and expert care provider and Tanika Gray Valburn, advocate and founder of the White Dress Project will talk about the importance of early education and awareness as the first steps to battling this condition. We will hear Dr. Shepherd talk about her experience treating this taboo condition while Tanika will share her lived experience and the importance of self-advocacy with your care provider. We hope you will join us for this dynamic panel which will serve as the first session about uterine fibroids at the Healthy Churches Conference.
