HIV/AIDS policy in THE United States

The Balm In Gilead and other distinguished individuals and organizations joined the Public Health Watch of the Open Society Institute’s U.S Advisory Board in conducting an assessment of HIV/AIDS Policy in the United States.

This Public Health Watch’s report, HIV/AIDS Policy in the United States: Monitoring the UNGASS Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS, provides a comprehensive analysis of the United States’ domestic response to HIV/AIDS.

Some key findings in this report include:

• The lack of an outcome-focused national strategy
• Consistent rates of new HIV infections, 25 years into the epidemic
• Low levels of HIV testing and treatment
• Racial disparities in accessing HIV prevention, testing and treatment services, and disproportionate impact of the epidemic on communities of color
