About The Balm In Gilead
The Balm In Gilead is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organization whose mission is
to improve the health status of people of the African Diaspora by building
the capacity of faith communities to address life-threatening diseases, especially
HIV/AIDS.
The Balm In Gilead's pioneering achievements have supported thousands
of faith institutions within the United States and in Africa to become leaders
in preventing
HIV/AIDS by providing comprehensive educational programs and offering compassionate
support to encourage those infected and affected to seek and maintain treatment.
In 2005, the
Balm In Gilead expanded its work to address cervical cancer in Black women
and other health disparities
that plaque Black communities.
In 2006, The Balm In Gilead moved its headquarters
from New York City to Richmond, VA with a keen focus to
bring more attention to the devastation of HIV/AIDS, poverty and lack of health
care and treatment among
American Blacks in the South. Today, the Balm In Gilead has two satellites
offices in Washington, DC and
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
