To my dear friends and colleagues in the movement!

The Balm In Gilead will convene its annual National Certification and Capacity Building Conference for Engaging Black Churches in HIV/AIDS Education and Service on July 23-26, 2002 at The Hilton Desoto in Savannah, GA. This conference is designed to assist community-based organizations develop and enhance skills on working in partnership with Black Churches, through the utilization of The Balm In Gilead's national program initiatives. Civic organizations, health departments and church-based HIV service providers who desire greater organizational capacity to effectively engage and support African American churches in addressing HIV/AIDS are encouraged to attend. As a certified partner of The Balm In Gilead your organization will be expected to implement the national models and strategies of The Balm In Gilead at the local level within your respective structures and communities.

Organizations are strongly encouraged to send two representatives to the National Certification and Capacity Building Conference including a program director or supervisor who is capable of influencing program design, content and budget. For further details on who should attend, please carefully read the instructions.

Upon completion of the training and fulfillment of all requirements, qualifying organizations will become 2002-03 Certified Service Partners of The Balm In Gilead. This booklet outlines detailed instructions on requirements and benefits of partnership with The Balm In Gilead. Conference information is also included. Please complete and submit the application and supporting documentation by July 8, 2002. THERE WILL BE NO ON-SITE REGISTRATION.

The Balm In Gilead is a non-profit, non-governmental organization with an international mission to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS throughout the African Diaspora by building the capacity of faith communities to provide AIDS education and support networks of all people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.
