The Balm In Gilead Hosts Fifth
Annual National Certification and Capacity Building Conference for Health Departments,
Community Based and Civic Organizations
July 23-26, 2002

NEW YORK, NY-June 20, 2002…The Balm In Gilead, a not-for-profit
organization with an international mission to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS throughout
the African Diaspora by building the capacity of faith communities, is seeking
to strengthen its existing network of national and international partners during
its fifth annual National Certification and Capacity Building Conference for Engaging
Black Churches in HIV/AIDS Education July 23-26 at The Hilton Desoto Hotel in
Savannah, Georgia.
Purpose
This conference is designed to assist community-based organizations, civic organizations,
health departments and church-based HIV service providers who desire to effectively
engage and support churches in the African Diaspora in addressing HIV/AIDS.
Upon completing this training, along with other requirements, an organization
will become a certified service partner of The Balm In Gilead. As a local partner
with this national and internationally recognized organization, they will receive
many services including ongoing technical assistance from The Balm In Gilead's
National Faith Based HIV/AIDS Technical Assistance Center.
Workshop and Capacity Building Session Highlights

· The Politics of the Black Church: A Conversation with Pastors
· How to Evaluate Your Programs
· Effective Faith-Based Community Models

Registration Information
The registration fee is $325. The registration fee covers the cost of conference
training materials, certification processing and daily breakfast and lunch. Conference
participants will be responsible for hotel and travel accommodations.
