THE BLACK CHURCH WEEK OF PRAYER - March 3-9, 2002

Message from Pernessa C. Seele, Founder and CEO, The Balm In Gilead
Dear
Friends!
Thirteen years ago, when The Balm In Gilead gave birth to the idea of The Black
Church Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS, black churches were, for the most
part, very silent on the issues of AIDS.
Throughout our land today, black congregations are lighting the way in addressing
the horrendous challenges of AIDS in black America and Africa. They have expanded
their sanctuaries to become community centers for HIV testing, prevention and
treatment information. Many churches are providing housing and a safe harbor for
people living with HIV to speak openly about their fears and their joys. The Black
Church Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS has been and will continue to be
the foundation of this extraordinary movement.
As the center for hope, salvation and information dissemination, each church
must provide effective leadership in addressing HIV and must act with urgency
to stop the spread of AIDS!
Please support The Black Church Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS. For
more information or to obtain your Black Church HIV/AIDS Education KIT, call 1-888-225-6243
