Dr. Robert Franklin (4th from left), president of the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, joined other religious leaders across the country at Mother AME Zion Church in Harlem, NY to launch an AIDS awareness campaign. The 10th anniversary of "Black Church Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS" will be recognized March 7 through March 13. On Sunday, March 7, thousands of church congregations are expected to pray that families and communities are healed of the devastating impact of the epidemic that is reportedly the leading cause of death for black men and women between the ages of 25 and 44.

The event was sponsored by the Balm in Gilead, based in New York City, with underwriting from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Agournon Pharmaceuticals, Dupont Pharmaceuticals Co., and Glaxo Wellcome.
