Black journalists hold conference

Dozens of journalist converged on the city this weekend for a regional conference
of the National Association of Black Journalists.
On Saturday, journalists listened to experts in their field discuss such topics
as reporting on Africa, surviving in small media markets and covering political
issues.
The Pittsburgh Black Media Federation is holding the conference at the Omni
William Penn, Downtown. Journalists from New York, New Jersey, West Virginia,Ohio,
Kentucky, Indiana and Tennessee were expected to attend.
Derek Bell, a Pittsburgh native and former Harvard law professor, was the keynote
speaker at the conference that opened Friday night.
Yesterday, Pernessa Seele, of the Washington, D.C.-based Balm in Gilead was
the keynote speaker. Seele spoke on addressing the AIDS crisis among blacks.The
conference will conclude this morning.
