Scriptural References for Islamic Communities




After more than two decades since HIV/AIDS was identified in the world, it has been widely accepted by many Muslim Scholars that HIV/AIDS is a trial and not a curse. The teachings are supported by the ideology that sickness and suffering is not a punishment from God.


Qur’an surat BAQARAH 2:153:  O Ye who believe! Seek help with patient perseverance and prayer: for God is with those who patiently preserve.


Qur’an surat BAQARAH 2:155:  Be sure we shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some in goods, lives and the fruits (of your toll), but give tidings to those who patiently persevere.


Surat ‘AAL_IMRAAN 3:8:  Our Lord! …Let not our hearts deviate now after thou hast granted us mercy from thee. For thou art the grantor of bounties without measure.


Surat ‘AAL –IMRANN 4:139: Lose not heart, not fall into despair, for you must gain mastery if you are true in faith.


Surat ‘AAL-IMRAAN 4:179:  Allah will not leave believers in the state in which they are now, until he separates what is evil from what is good.


Surat Az-Zumar 24:62:  Allah is the creator of all things, and He is the Guardian and disposer of all affairs.


Qur’an 24:19:  For those who like to spread bad things to those who believe will be punished in the world and in heaven. And the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) has said a human being who saves his/her fellow in this world. God will save him/her at the end of the world.
