What is capacity building assistance?

Capacity Building refers to activities that improve and enhance a nonprofit’s ability to achieve its mission and sustain itself over time. Simply put, capacity building is organizational “self-care” and an investment in its overall health and sustainability.

Capacity building assistance begins with assessing the needs of the organization. These areas of needs may include organizational skills and management, ministry/program design, leadership and staff development, evaluation, resource development, and client and community relations.

With assistance a church or organization can:

Imagine your church or organization as cup being filled with water. The water represents resources coming into your church or your organization (human, financial, material, skills, knowledge, ability, and people you service). If there are cracks or holes in the cup water will leak out, wasting your precious resources. The overall effectiveness of the cup is compromised. Consider capacity building as assistance in repairing the holes and cracks, strengthen the foundation, and building the walls higher and stronger. The repairs increase your effectiveness and impact.

What will it cost my organization to receive Capacity Building Assistance from The Balm In Gilead?

It will cost your organization “sweat equity.” The Balm In Gilead in funded in part by The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Capacity Building Branch. While most of our CBA services are not associated with a fee, it will cost a church or organization the commitment of time, staff/volunteers, and willingness to learn and to venture into new territory.
