Additional Viewing Considerations

Cache

One good maintenance tip is to clear your browser cache (pronounced "cash") from time to time. The cache stores images from pages you've visited so if you return to those pages you don't have to wait for all of the images to reload. Clearing these files helps your browser run more efficiently and will not change any of your browser's settings.

To clear the cache:

Netscape Navigator

  1. Under "Options", select "Network Preferences"

  2. Click on button "Clear Disk Cache Now"

Microsoft's Internet Explorer

  1. Under "View", select "Options"

  2. select "Advanced"

  3. select "Temporary Internet Files"

  4. select "Settings"

  5. click on button "Empty Folder"

If you continue to encounter memory problems, you may need to quit and restart the program.

Memory (Macintosh only) If you have more than 20Mb of RAM on your computer, you can increase the amount of RAM for your browser by following the steps below. Netscape Navigator 3.0 prefers a minimum of 9Mb of RAM.

  1. Quit all applications

  2. In the "Finder", locate the icon for your browser and select it by clicking on it once

  3. Under the "File" menu select Get Info or use the keyboard command "Command I"

  4. Increase "Preferred Memory" by 1,000 or more.

Please Note: If you see a "Find Original" button in the lower right corner of this window, you've selected an alias of the program. Click on "Find Original" and follow steps 3 and 4.
