the United States dedicated exclusively to empowering African American faith
institutions in the struggle against the devastation of HIV/AIDS in the Black
community. The Balm In Gilead’s pioneering achievements have enabled
thousands of churches to become leaders in preventing HIV by providing comprehensive
educational programs and offering compassionate support to encourage those
infected to seek and maintain treatment. In 2000, the Balm In Gilead expanded
its services to five African countries: Cote d’Ivoire, Kenya, Nigeria,
Tanzania and Zimbabwe. The week beginning Sunday, March 5-11, 2006, marks the
organization’s 17th annual national observance of The Black Church Week
of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS.
