HIV/AIDS Facts - Tanzania
Adults aged between 15 and 49 years account of
1.2 million our of the 1.5 million HIV infected people
in the country.
It is estimated that from 1990 –2010, AIDS will
have increased the crude death rate in Tanzania by
more than 50%.
Life expectancy in Tanzania has decreased from
61 to 46 years due to AIDS.
Although 20% of the population, Tanzanians aged
15 to 24 years, account for 60% of new infections in
the country.
More than 68,000 children under 15 years are living
with HIV/AIDS.
It is reported that each year 50,000 to 60,000 children
are born HIV positive and more of them die before
they are 5 years.
Over 1.1 million children under the age of 15 years
are orphaned to AIDS.
