HIV/AIDS Facts - Nigeria

  • Thirteen percent of all HIV infected Africans are Nigerians.

  • Nigeria has approximately 3 million people between the ages of 15 and 49 years reported HIV infected.

  • As estimated half million Nigerians became infected in 1998 alone.

  • In 1998, 140,000 women were reported living with HIV/AIDS.

  • Approximately 72 percent of all HIV infections are among adults under the age of 40 years old.

  • More than 1.4 million children have been orphaned by AIDS.
