HIV/AIDS Facts - Nigeria

Thirteen percent of all HIV infected Africans are Nigerians. Nigeria has approximately 3 million people between the ages of 15 and 49 years reported HIV infected. As estimated half million Nigerians became infected in 1998 alone. In 1998, 140,000 women were reported living with HIV/AIDS. Approximately 72 percent of all HIV infections are among adults under the age of 40 years old. More than 1.4 million children have been orphaned by AIDS.
